Vocational education is education that prepares people with requisite skills to work in various jobs, such as a trade, a craft, or as a technician.

In a move to drastically reduce the unemployment rate in the state, the bill for vocational education was passed in the state assembly.

Over 13 certificate awarding Technical Colleges and Vocational Institutions  have been equipped with modern technology and qualified teachers, in all the Senatorial Districts of the state.

The Technical Schools are:

  1. 1. Technical College Agbor
  2. 2. Technical College Sapele
  3. 3. Technical College Ogor
  4. 4. Technical College Issele-Uku

  6. 6. Technical College Kwale

The Vocational Institutions are located in:

  1. Ozoro

The development has created a paradigm shift in the education sector, as students now register in these institutions of learning and acquire skills which not only makes them employable but also prepares them to become employers of labour.

The state government is optimistic that soon, Delta State will begin to provide the skilled manpower required to drive Nigeria's technological revolution.

The skills offered in the schools with certification include:

  1. Electrical and Installation
  2. Motor/Auto Repair and Maintenance
  3. Building Technology
  4. Catering
  5. Bead making.

  7. Hair Dressing
  8. Fashion Design, and all kinds of general craft.
"We are equipping our children to acquire skills, to be equipped for the future, the schools are going beyond the training to be involved in production activities" said the state governor.
The State Chairman for Technical And Vocational Education Board (TVEB) Mrs. Obanor Clara said the initiative will provide employment for Deltans who according to her "are roaming about". She said with the skills they acquire, they can start up something and go on to employ others are they grow.
