What The First FIFA World Cup Final In 1930 Has In Common With The 2018 Final

The French national football team on Sunday July 18, 2018 defeated a hard fighting Croatia national football team to lift their second FIFA World Cup trophy.

Les Bleus were first crowned champions in 1998 when they defeated Brazil 3-0 on home soil. They took the lead in the first half when Mario Mandzukic flicked an inswinging Antoinne Griezman's free kick into his own net.

The Croatians once again had to come from behind as they did in the knockout stage, quarterfinals and semifinals when Perisic curled a delicious effort into the far right corner of the net.

A dramatic handball by Perisic in the area was later awarded as penalty after the referee went to view the screen and applied the VAR decision. It was Griezman who stepped forward to grab his 4th goal of the tournament.

Later, long range efforts from Pogba and Mabappe sealed victory for the French before goalkeeper Iloris gifted Mandzukic a consolation goal.

It ended 4-2 in favour of France. The result means France has produced the highest scoreline in FIFA World Cup finals since 1970 when Brazil defeated Italy 4-1.  Kylian Mabappe became only the second teenager after Pele to score in a World Cup final and Mandzukic became the first player to score an own goal in a FIFA World Cup final.
Croatia crowned their greatest world cup outing with a second place finish and Luca Modric was awarded the best player of the tournament.

Didier Deschamps became only the 3rd football coach to lift the FIFA World Cup as a player and Coach, after he captained the French team to glory in 1998.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be remembered as the fall of giants.
The 4-2 result recorded by France is similar to the scoreline in the epic final of the maiden FIFA World Cup hosted and lifted by Uruguay in 1930 where they defeated Argentina 4-2.

Arise Africa congratulates the French National team, the continent of Africa and whole world for a peaceful tournament.
See you in Winter at Qatar 2022.
