According to research, one of the first things people notice about others is their footwear. As African creativity and entrepreneurship drive continues to grow, one of the rarest occupation to be considered by most African women is the very highly demanding occupation of shoe making.




In the ancient City of Benin, the Edo State Capital, Arise Africa Media team interviewed a young, vibrant female shoe manufacturer who says she earns her living and supports her family with the occupation.


Miss Fumnanya Yvonne, the C.E.O. of Yvonne's Feet who studied Banking and Finance at Auchi Polytechnic shared her story and opined that the challenges of life are her greatest motivation.

Yvonne's Feet manufactures all kinds of footwear including Brogues, Sandals and Slip-on for both sexes. The Delta State born entrepreneur decried lack of funds to procure some important machines as some of her biggest challenges.

I desire the assistance of the Edo State government and other well meaning Nigerians to procure a filing machine, leather sewing machine, branding machine and to rent secure a shop in a good location in the City.

She further explained that she also engages in other jobs to make ends meet.

I work with an event management company on part time basis and I also teach in Primary School to raise funds, but the machines are very expensive," she further explained.

The start up company is currently training a couple of apprentices in the lucrative profession
of shoe making.
