Matchday 23 Ruckus: UFA Sanctions Abuedo FC.

Following the brawl that ensued on matchday 23 between Idumubo/Akpama FC and Abuedo FC, Ubulu-Uku Football Association (UFA) has announced sanctions to Abuedo FC players and management for their role in the affray that saw the match abandoned.

Trouble started when Idumubo/Akpama FC scored a controversial second goal in the fixture to make it 2-0 but Abuedo FC players protested the legitimacy of the goal. Since it came from a throw-in situation, the players argued that the ball floated into the net without making any contact while the referee insisted it took a touch and ruled it a goal.

The furious Abuedo FC players and some fans reportedly went on rampage, breaking the corner flags, damaging the ball, tearing the net, breaking the notice board, football official's bench and harassing the match officials.

Consequently, in a resolution announced this evening by the UFA Chairman Mr. Kobiku Obanor, Abuedo FC will replace the facilities destroyed with a fine of N5,000, while two of their players including one of the league's top scorers Kaba Kenneth and Nonye Akakpor will both serve a 3-match ban for their role in the fracas.

Abuedo FC who started the league with two wins in a row have now gone 3 matches without a win, losing 2-0, 2-1 and 2-0 against Ugbaa FC, Enugwu-Iyi FC and Idumubo/Akpama FC respectively.
They are presently 3rd in the league table with one match left to play.
With this development, the team must defeat Udo FC on Dec. 17 to stand a chance of making it to the next round.

Recall that in 2014, Ugbaa FC goalkeeper was banned for 3yrs. for seizing the match ball.

As we have seen in many football league competitions, the losers will always want to raise a ruckus.
