A Nigerian woman Mrs. Lauretta Mogekwu Kooper has become one of only few Nigerian women to earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). She obtained the highly revered degree from Louisiana State University Health Science Centers, New Orleans, Louisiana.

A DNP is the practice-oriented or professional terminal degree.
Thus, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is the terminal professional degree in nursing. In the United States, the DNP is one of two doctorate degrees in nursing, the other being the PhD (Doctor of Philosophy). The curriculum for the DNP degree builds on traditional master's programs by providing education in evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and systems leadership.

The highly respected scholar hails from Ubulu-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria.

She started her phenomenal academic journey at Ezemu Girls Grammar School Ubulu-Uku where she serve as the School's Assistant Senior Perfect (ASP) between 1985 and 1986. She would later emerge as one of the best students who wrote WASC in 1986, clearing all her papers in one sitting.

Later, she gained admission into the School of Nursing at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Lagos and graduated in Nov. 1991 as a Nigerian Registered Nurse.
She proceeded to become a Nigerian registered midwife, obtaining her certificate from LUTH in April 1994.

In the year 2000, she moved to USA and has been studying to attain a DNP.

To God be the Glory. I am super excited and moreso because my brother came all the way from Nigeria to celebrate with me. The bigger celebration will be in October by the grace of God when I turn 50, so watch out for that.

Mrs. Kooper posted through her Facebook page;

Yes indeed, this day finally came and it happened against ALL odds. Conferred with the highest degree in my profession, it can only be God, and may the name of Jehovah be praised forever from the lilies on Ubulu-Uku low lands to the cattle on Nigerian high mountains, even across the American seas to the waters on New Orleans lakes. May His name be praised from everlasting to everlasting for His faithfulness.
