The Delta State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commended the Director General of Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), Hon. Mrs. Joan Onyemaechi Mrakpor, noting that she has through passion and diligence excelled in remodeling Asaba.
The accolades came from NLC from Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, chairman of the Delta State Council, who was a guest today at the International Women's Day celebration hosted by the NLC Women Committee in Asaba.
He stated that with the performance of Mrs. Mrakpor, it will not be difficult for any Governor to consider appointing another woman into political offices.

When I passed Summit Junction, I never knew that road was so wide. I never knew until our Mama took over that commission. When I was passing through Maami Market a few days ago, I saw that the place was so wide, I said eh! So, we have this kind of space in Asaba?
Ofobruku said.
To demonstrate his admiration of Mrakpor's impact on the capital territory, he called on the audience to rise and give a round of applause for the DG.

Women are great if they bring their heart to work. She was in the House of Assembly, she went to House of Representatives and came back and we are now seeing Asaba having a new face.

There is nowhere in Nigeria that I have not gone to. I used to weep when I travel to other state capitals, some that were created alongside Delta and some that were even created after.
But, when you come to our state capital it was so dirty. People did things the way they liked and nobody asked them why, but today it is no longer the case.
And who is in the forefront? A woman!
the Delta NLC boss stated, adding that "the other day, the governors of the South-South states came and I was so happy because they will see a clean state capital, courtesy of a woman."
He appealed to the DSCTDA director general to initiate a tree planting exercise to further beautify the city.
Please, adopt the planting of trees in the areas you have cleared.

Responding, Mrs. Mrakpor unveiled the Agency's plan to begin the tree planting project soon.

The union leader also lauded the leadership acumen of Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, describing him as a labour friendly governor.

Gov. Okowa implemented the new minimum wage in Delta State and paid in arrears. He also implemented the promotion and training of employees in the state civil service. When we complained about the issues surrounding pension, he quickly moved in to find a lasting solution to it. We have concluded plans to honour him on May Day as part of activities to mark this year's Workers' Day celebration
he said.
