The new Asaba Commodity Market is bubbling with activities as traders from the old Abraka Market who were recently relocated to the new facility are counting the gains of their movement.
The large expanse of land fitted with modern conveniences, a police post and waste disposal system has provided the traders with a more clement environment that has boosted businesses in the area.
The ecstatic traders were on hand to share in their joy with the director general of Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Hon. Mrs. Joan Onyemaechi Mrakpor, who today visited the new market.
The DG was conducted round the market by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Special Duties, Mr. Mutari Usman and the chairman, Hausa Community in Asaba, Alhaji Musa Shuwa.

Mrs. Mrakpor inspected the different sections of the market and confirmed from the traders that the spaces were allocated to them free of charge as directed by the Delta State Government.
The new market occupies a land space twice the size of the old market to ensure adequate accessibility and to accommodate other facilities such as a Police Post and internal security outfit, Toilet Facility and a Health Care Centre.

She admonished the traders to ensure that the concerns raised by traders in the old market are addressed and never allowed to repeat itself in the new market.
We have built facilities to ensure that the security, sanitation and health concerns at the old market are not replicated here. We have build conveniences and plans are on place to have an enlarged police post here. The market has also been fenced and with time, the access roads will be properly fixed, the director general stated.
The traders broke into spontaneous songs of praise thanked the DG. One of the traders who spoke on behalf of the fish sellers said the only challenge they are faced with is adequate parking space reserved exclusively for cars.

Mrs. Mrakpor who patronised most of the traders also took time to distribute face masks and educated the traders on the prevention of Covid-19.
