The director general of Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Hon. Mrs. Joan Onyemaechi Mrakpor, has charged the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to produce movies that portray stories promoting the fight against cultism and other social vices.

The DG made the call when members of the Delta State Chapter of AGN paid her a courtesy visit. The group led by renowned Nollywood actor, Emmanuel Onyemeziem, an indigene of Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, said the visit was in appreciation of her efforts towards the development of the Delta State Capital Territory.

The group expressed delight at the Asaba makeover, adding that the development has added glitz and glamour to their work.

"I want to commend you for all you have done in Asaba and her environs. You may not know, but your work has helped in the development of Nollywood. Most of our movies shot in Asaba here are remarked for the very beautiful and serene environment. We have carefully followed your antecedents and work which you have carried out with integrity before we decided to come and honour you with an award of excellence," Onyemeziem said in his address.

Receiving the visitors, Mrs. Mrakpor urged them to look into what they can do to help in the reorientation of youths in the state and the country at large, saying that movies can be a very powerful tool in reaching the teeming population of Nigerian youths.

"I am deeply pained by what is happening in Asaba and her environs, especially the cult killings. I want to plead with you to produce movies that will help us to pass the message to youths about the dangers of cultism.

"I am willing to support any movie project that will help us in educating the youths while entertaining them. Cultism has eaten deep into the fabrics of our society and proper orientation through entertainment will help in addressing the menace and other social vices," Mrs Mrakpor added.

She implored them to explore and harness the potentials of the entertainment industry to produce movies with story lines that educate the public on the dangers of cultism and other social vices, pledging support for such entertaining and educative movie projects.

The group after the award presentation decorated her as a patron of AGN.

The director general was presented an award of excellence by members of the Guild in appreciation of her efforts in the development of the Delta State Capital Territory.

The AGN entourage included seasoned Nollywood actors and actress such as, Sam Obiago, a native of Asaba, Amaka Offor, Anthonia Obieze and Onyemaechi Ifeanyi.
